This original show, based upon Midrash-Jewish Textual Folklore is set during the
Roman Era in a year of terrible drought following the destruction of the
Second Temple. The setting: an encampment where the «People of Israel»(the
audience)are gathered, preparing themselves for their holy pilgrimage to
Jerusalem, and united in the fervent hope that their prayers for rain will be
answered and that the drought will come to an end!
An unexpected guest suddenly appears at the encampment: the renowned Rabbi
Akiva. Everybody knows that he is beeing the Romans, although nobody knows
exactly why. Hot on the heels of the Rabbi comes the Roman Emperor with his
soldiers, |
declaring that if the People of Israel do not turn Rab- bi Akiva over to the
Romans, not only will they be forbidden to make their holy pilgrimage to Jerusa-
lem,but they will also face terrible sanctions...
While the people in the encampment are faced with a difficult decision, a solution arrives from a most
unexpected place.
From the Director:
"This is an extraordinary show, one which interacts with the audience as a
fundamental part of the narrative. The theatrical events mesmerize, divide, and
surprise audience members, placing moral dilemmas before them."
